The Kobelco SK100-III Preface Instructions

Read and understand all Warning plates and decal on the machine before Operating, Maintaining or Repairing this machine. The Kobelco SK100-III Excavator Manual has been written for the repair specialist. The serviceman or mechanic may be unfamiliar with many of the systems on this machine. This makes it important to use this manual and be caution when performing service work.

Please go carefully through the Shop Manual of the Excavator before starting any repair work. Use proper lifting procedures when removing any components. Be careful when removing filler caps, breathers and plugs on the machine. Hold a rag over the cap or plug to prevent being sprayed or splashed by liquids under pressure. The danger is even greater if the machine has just been stopped because fluids can be hot.

Use the Shop/Service Manual of the SK100-III Excavator as a reference book and source of information even if you are familiar with Excavator technology. Using the Workshop Manual, the experience construction machine mechanic can carry out any necessary repairs expertly.

REPAIR and Parts

Carry out any necessary repair work as soon as possible.This reduces repair costs and increases the availability of your Excavator. When doing any work on the Excavator, always observe the instructions given in the Manual. Do not operate this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions in the SERVICE MANUAL. Improper machine operation is dangerous and could result in injury or death.


Kobelco SK100-III Excavator1) Remove the upper frame off the machine proper.
(Refer to the separate manual “Upper Frame”) 2) Remove the capscrews that fix the inner race to the swing bearing.
3) Install two lifting rings to the swing bearing and lift it with a crane till it comes off.
1) Before installing the swing bearing, remove dust and oil that may stay on the matching surface of the swing ring and the installing surface of the lower frame.
2) Set the swing ring on the lower frame in such a way that the “S” mark on the inner race is located on the left-hand side of the machine. (See Fig. 25.)
3) Coat the screwed part of the capscrews with Three Bond 1305 (equivalent) and temporarily fasten them by hand.
4) Temporarily fasten all capscrews located 180 diagonally apart from each other to a torque of 15kgf m (108 ft lbs).
5) Lastly, tighten all capscrews to a specified torque of 28.5kgf m (206ft lbs).
Apply Three Bond 1215 all around the inside of the cap screw holes in the mounting faces of the upper frame and the slewing ring.
6) After mounting the swing bearing to the lower frame, attach them to the upper frame.
7) Apply Three Bond 1360K (equivalent) to the screwed part of the three reamer bolts and temporarily tighten them to a torque of 15kgf m (108ft lbs)
8) Apply Three Bond 1360K (equivalent) to other capscrews the same way, screw them in by hand and temporarily tighten them in diagonally opposite positions to a torque of 15kgfm (108ft lbs)
9) Finally, tighten them to a specified torque of 28.5kgf m (206ft lbs). (For the mounting of “Upper Frame”, refer to a separate manual.) CEF Before starting the engine and p_erforming swing action, always fill the swing reduction unit and the swing motor casings with a specified volumes of engine oil.
