Tractors and Engines General Manual  Table of Content

This “General” Unit of the Service Manual is reserved for maintenance instructions covering starters, generators, carburetors, and other assemblies which are common to various models of tractors, engines, and other types of John Deere equipment.

Section 10 contains maintenance information of a general nature-how to read micrometers  keeping drills sharp safety precautions  use and care of common tools . . . hints on getting the most out of more complicated tools such as welding equipment and power drills.

Section 30 gives instructions for doing a thorough valve and seat reconditioning job on any John Deere engine.

Section 40 contains maintenance information on starters, generators, regulators, distributors, magnetos, batteries and other types of electrical equipment used on John Deere tractors and stationary engines. Instructions are given for using the latest testing equipment-how to hook it up and interpret the readings on the dials. Complete instructions are also given for disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, and assembly of the various electrical units used on tractors and stationary engines.

Section 60 covers all phases of carburetor service. This Section contains the same kind of complete information as does the electrical equipment Section. In addition to maintenance information, each Section contains simple, easy-to-understand discussions of the basic principles involved in the operation of the various units. This information will help you diagnose trouble correctly and remedy it quickly. Since the Service Manual is loose-leaf style, Sections can be added, as required, to keep you up to date on the latest factory-and field-tested methods of servicing and repairing tractors and other John Deere equipment. When new pages are sent to you, insert them in your Service Manual immediately. Only by keeping your manual up to date, can you profit fully from the information it contains.
