Manual Extract EQUALIZER BEAM
Removal
IMPORTANT: The weight of the equalizer beam for the 62 inch (1575 mm) gauge dozer is 230 pounds ( 104 kg). The weight of the equalizer beam for the 7 4 inch ( 1880 mm) dozer is 335 pounds ( 152 kg). Use lifting equipment or other persons as required when removing the equalizer beam.
1. Remove the guard behind and in front of the equalizer beam.
a. The weight of the guards is in the range of 51 to 72 pounds (23 to 33 kg).
b. Put an acceptable jack in contact with the guard before removing the cap screws.
c. Loosen and remove the cap screws that hold the guard.
d. Lower and remove the guard from under the machine.
2. Raise the front of the machine just enough to remove the weight of the machine from the center pivot pin for the equalizer beam.
3. Use jack stands to hold the machine in place when the center pivot pin is removed.
4. Loosen the nut that holds the grease hose for the center pivot pin on the left side of the frame.
5. Disconnect the grease hose from the center pivot pin.
6. Loosen and remove the cap screws, hardened washers, and spacers that hold the center pivot pin.
7. Install the cap screws in the threaded holes in the center pivot pin.
8. Tighten the cap screws to start the pivot pin out of the frame.
9. Remove the pivot pin. Use a prybar or drive the pivot pin out as required.
10. Remove the pivot pin at each end of the equalizer beam.
a. Loosen and remove the cap screws that hold the cover for the recoil housing.
b. Remove the cover.
c. If equipped with covers for the track ad-juster, loosen and remove the cap screws that hold the rear cover.
d. Remove the rear cover.
e. Loosen and remove the cap screw, hardened washer, and spacer that hold the pivot pin.
f. Drive the pivot pin out of the mounting bracket.
11. Raise the equalizer beam out of both mounting brackets. Do not lose the hardened washers that are installed on each side of the equalizer beam.
12. Carefully remove the equalizer beam from the machine. It will be necessary to raise the frame for clearance to remove the equalizer beam.
