Manual Extract: Hydraulic Pump Efficiency

TEST CONNECTIONS

Remove the flow divider  and spring and install the flow divider cap. Disconnect the hitch supply tube.
Disconnect the power steering supply tube  and cap the MCV fitting. Install the inlet of the flowmeter to the hitch supply fitting from the MCV, install the outletof the flowmeter to the transmission filler.

TEST REQUIREMENTS
• Heat the hydraulic oil to a temperature of 49 ° C (120 • F).
• Run the engine at rated speed.
• Record the flow as flow ‘A’.
• Turn the load valve on the flowmeter and restrict the flow to a pressure of 137.9 bar (2000 psi).
• Record the flow as flow ‘B’.
• Calculate the pump efficiency using the formula below. The efficiency must not be less than 80%.

PUMP EFFICIENCY FORMULA
Flow ‘B’ divided by Flow ‘A’ x 100 =% of pump efficiency
Example – Flow ‘N = 50 Umin Flow ‘B’= 47 Umin 47 50 X 100 = 94%

• If the flow is less than 80%, refer to POSSIBLE CAUSES.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
– Pump Flow Low:
Hydraulic oil level low (bad transfer pump).
Hydraulic filter in MCV blocked
Intake of air around the filter bowl.
Pump drive gear key failed.
Seals between pump and MCV bad.
Pump inlet in range housing blocked.
Pump worn.
Refer to Multi Control Valve and Hydraulic Pump, Section 8010.
