Components
– Compressor:
The compressor is connected to the engine lubrication system. Air sucked in by the compressor is filtered through the engine air filter. The compressor is permanently driven by the engine belt.
– Antifreeze pump.
An alcohol-based antifreeze system is injected into the lines of the pneumatic system to avoid freezing – Regulation:
The pressure inside the air tanks is limited by the pressure regulator located on the right-hand side of the tractor. The air pressure is regulated between 6,5 bar (94 psi) and 8 bar (116 psi). When the pressure is at maximum, the air directed by the compressor leaves the system via the regulator and is discharged into the open air via a silencer. This silencer is fitted on the pressure regulator.
The safety valve opens at 12 bar (174 psi).
– Tanks:
The system comprises two tanks located to the right and left of the rear axle in front of the trumpet housings; each tank can contain 10 l (2.6 gal (US)). A pressure sensor is fitted to the right-hand tank and indicates the pressure of the system.
– Automatic bleeding
An automatic bleed device is located underneath each tank and used to drain the water in the system.
– Control valve:
The valve is controlled by the hydraulic and mechanical parts of the tractor braking system. When the brake pedal is not activated, the control valve is not supplied and so no pressure is supplied to the pneumatic brake line. As soon as the brake pedal is applied, the valve is supplied. It receives hydraulic pressure and pressure is then supplied to the pneumatic brake line. When the parking brake is activated, the mechanical connecting rod activates the control valve and supplies the trailer brake with air.
– Pressure sensor:
The pressure sensor is mounted on top of one tank. This sensor measures the pressure in the system; the value is displayed on the DOT Matrix screen on the instrument panel. If the pressure is below 4 bar (58 psi), an indicator light illuminates on the instrument panel.
– Couplers:
– Yellow: This coupler connects the trailer’s main service brake line.
– Red: This line is permanently supplied with compressed air. This coupler must be connected after the yellow coupler and must be disconnected first.
