Manual Extract: Oil Pressure System

The engine lubricating system consists of a positive displacement gear type pump, equipped with a floating intake screen, and a heavy duty fullflow replaceable filter element.

Oil flow begins at the floating intake screen and then is sucked up to the oil pump. From there it is pumped under pressure through a passage in the right hand side of the block, which leads to the oil filter. Oil then circulates through the oil filter. When leaving the filter, oil enters a drilled passage running horizontally in the right hand side of block which enters another drilled passage.

This passage is located between the second and · third cylinders, leading to oil gallery, which runs the full length of left hand side of block.

Each Case W3 Tractor crankshaft main bearing has a drilled hole leading up to the oil gallery which lubricates the main bearings and, in turn permits oil to enter drilled holes in crankshaft leading to connecting rod bearings. A passage leads from center main bearing to a vertical passage leading up through th right hand side of block to th top of cylinder head. Thus, lubricating the valve mechanism. The front main bearing also has a second passage leading up the right hand side of block to front camshaft bearing for lubrication. Number 2 and 3 camshaft bearings are drip fed from the top.

The only parts in the engine that are not lubricated directly under pressure or gravity flow and are dependent on lubrication by means of agitation or splash, are the pistons and piston pins. For this reason, the recommended oil level must be maintained at all times to insure ample lubrication.
