Manual Extract: Cylinder leak check

NOTE: The following procedure applies to all hydraulic cylinders except the angle cylinders. The angle cylinders are designed with a bypass that allows a leak after the cylinder seal, when the angle of the cylinder is extended.
To check the cylinder seal in the angle cylinder, disassemble the angle cylinder in accordance with the instructions Dozer blade cylinders – Disassemble (35.741).

1. Start the engine. Extend the cylinder rod on the cylinder to be checked to its maximum stroke.
2. Turn the engine OFF.
3. Place the ignition key in the ON position. Place the parking brake lever in the operating position. Move the control levers in all directions to release any pressure in the hydraulic circuits. Place the right-hand parking brake lever in the applied position. Turn off the ignition key.
4. Disconnect the hydraulic line from the end of the cylinder rod to be tested. Install a plug or cap on the end of the hydraulic line.
5. Install a hose in the open port to the end of the cylinder rod. Put the other end of the hose in a suitable container.
6. Start up the engine. Move and hold the hydraulic control lever to extend the cylinder to be tested.
7. If the cylinder seal has a leak, the oil will flow from the open port at the end of the cylinder rod.
